Scholars, I am proud to announce that I had the opportunity to engage live at the Florida International Summit 2012on April 14, 2012 which is a Florida Network for Global Studies (FNGS) in conjunction with U.C.F and F.S.U. This network fosters activities that strengthen expertise and interest in transnational and global studies issues.
The Summits covers technology, society and innovation in an era of globalization had various speakers from different professions . The attire was business casual which shows “Etiquette” and professionalism in workplace. A very educational experience giving and creating awareness in the essence of thriving in an international environment .
Alyesha Khanna who is the founder and director of the Hybrid Reality Institute , a research and advisory think tank focused on the intersection of technology trends ,data intelligence and geopolitics . Various strategies and expertise navigating the 21st century through the ages. Hybrid age is becoming ubiquitous. The information age that had created a global awareness that is transition information.
Relationships with technology can disrupts and change our lives in the content of the city she state.
I agree with her technology are reshaping our world, we all collect and share information. We live in technology and we are becoming technology savvies. They are intelligent advisors to us how we socialize in a macro level.  Khannna , state that everything can be made at home or starts at home , Technology  has become a  way of life. Its evolving it can be an advantage or a disadvantage
Rise of intelligence of robots are now transforming the workspace. Medical field  are now using robots 86% prostrate surgeries in 2010 was used by doctor . Paralegies using Robots to examine 1.5 million documents with official technology. Robots in the entertainment arena in Japan 160,000 the holographic rock star in concert . It comes a time we have to ask what’s real ? if they fulfill a profession this means that one’s job will be taken from them by an artificial intelligence .
Khanna informed us that Sebastian from Stanford University had programed a robot car and it was successful. Technology is a double head sword any one can access it. Everything are becoming more “smart” and cities are now the platform. Smart trees are sending signal when they need water and that’s because the hybrid age are renewing awareness . She advice that people make informed decisions about technology.  Cyber warfare are on the rise into our system creating anti-manipulation software. To conclude this was very informative and well organized and I enjoyed every moment .

Women and the Environment

One of the core and primary issues with women agencies and the environment is that issues occurs such as household products are health hazards . “Housemaker” women are exposed to toxic chemicals ,dumps with its wasted polluted air. Women agency are made up of computer manufacturing company, dairy industry, and house cleaning Creating environmental issues in suburbs, inner-city and even in our neighborhood with bad smells. Issues experienced primarily at the meso , micro level and even macro.

Women work in agencies becoming more and more prone to health hazards polluted they can easily affect their children or families. As the article mentioned that women’s environmental activism includes caring within the home. Women are prone to have a second shift. When come home from along day they are toxic waste that are contaminated . Subsequently we see that infants who are breast fed are consuming anything the mother carries in her system.

Women agencies tend to be domestic industries as the video showed us that the government ought to be “for the people”. However we see that they’re over 100,0000 synthesechemicals which are toxic . The toxic helps build the food chain such as breast feeding becomes toxic. Women are becoming labors and with no options they have reproductive toxic.
America is a nation of consumers and natural resources are been used in products everyday. This has become an way of life advertisement is a global industry that has been a catalyst to consumptions. As the video points out that “Ad’s makes us feel unhappy about what we have so we can go out and buy”. A system in crisis that had become poising to women agencies.

To concluded women agency are polluted and it really impact the lives on a day to day bases. Consequently the poor class people who are usually in contact with chemicals don’t have the necessary resources. We can help protect ourselves by recycling and be eco-friendly

Campus Engagement 1

Hello everyone my name is Latoya, and I am here  reporting live from the  beautiful campus of the University of Central Florida  on March 27, 2012,. I am here listen to Alexandra Cousteau who is known as an National Geographic "Emerging Explorer, filmmaker and globally recognized advocate on water issues . She will be speaking today  on the topic “Saving the planet “ a global perspective in conjunction with UCF’s Unifying Theme .Are you  wondering what this  organization is about?  I am glad you ask; UT organizes summits every semester to engages students in a face to face discussion pressing environment having speaker come out to share their knowledge ,experience etc.
It is now 4:30 p.m. and I am here in the   Student Union, Cape Florida Ballroom Alexandra Cousteau is wrapping up her session . it’s time for me to  reflect about my  thoughts about this extraordianary campus engagement .  When I arrived to the room my first impression was on Seely, will support student who are politicizing their lives especially an organization as  UT who gives student the opportunities to have  direct student action to respond and be a voice for the environment and global climate change .
Alexandra Cousteau who I will call the voice for “saving our planet “she is truly a passionate individual and so relevant to  this course she represent a women in leadership. She travels around the country and politicize her life by creating awareness .  I am not so environmental friendly so my impressions was that I need to create awareness about this after Cousteau “ We can restore ecosystem by having campaign water rights which is away to conserve and restore what we have “. To my knowledge I did not no we had water issues she briefly mentioned Farmer vs. Fish issue  according to L.A Times “California faces dry and wet cycles, and during the 2007-09 drought, water was scarce for farmers, cities and the environment”. She went on to discuss that our system are in crisis and we ought to talk about things from a interconnect system .
In her journey she mentioned her experience in India , she saw that some of their water is black and people was fishing out of it and she said that the solution for this is that it take leaders and people to realize that what resource they are using . This makes realize that based on social location people are not being educated on the importance of clean water and how that it can restore life ,but pollution can give us less access to it . In conclusion it was awesome and I learned that politilizing life is the way to go because the learning experience is the teacher.

Activism Weekly Log for Service Learning

    Activism:
On March 3,2012 Andrea Thompson, , Nadean Richards and myself conducted our first workshop with  Beautiful Butterflies Mentoring Program Inc. This week I didn’t know what to expect since it was the first time working with the girls age 9-10 . I believe we had an personal contact with the girls, Our sole purpose is to identify ,and impact lives .We  discussed with the girls about the power of  recognizing   commonalities ,and enhancing their individuality. When we said “commonalities” we know that the girls did not to know what it delineate  and I believe  the entreating part about it that we was able to “unpack” the word . Our success was at the end of the day we came with a goal  and we did just that. We also identify by sharing some of our life stories and by that we saw that the girls was interactive and outspoken and it made me feel great on the inside to know that I am doing something that I never saw or even encounter when I was in their age group . I believe our pitfalls was that we needed  to promote  it more so we can have a larger group . Our next workshop is approaching and I believe we did by  gave the girls who came flyers to their friends to create awareness about this type of activism . So we “Fight like a girl”  in the words of Megan Seely to contribute to our communities because as we no act is to small .
 Reflection
I remember I was in class and I final understand the big picture of what it takes to be an activism the equation is this I (Micro)+Community(Meso)= WE (MACRO) .  So I believe in order to understand a Macro Level  we have to go back to what makes it up.  We read quite a bit ,but the one reading I believe took me on a journey about what it means to be consider as an activism is “Fight like a girl” Seely stated that we can share our stories ,lead by example ,and be activist in our own lives.  This week change and influence me by showing me that commonalties is a way to create new knowledge by politicizing ourselves .  I believe Beautiful Butterflies Mentoring Program Inc. is doing an remarkable  job in the community taking girls from risk to promise to enrich  the macro level by creating a activism by exploring the  Micro,Meso  level to make up the Macro level . This course is awesome it really had changed and reformed the passion for activism and understanding the world around  us.

    Reciprocity
I am learning that life is a course and experience is a teacher . I said this to say that sometime we tend to go through life and we all come from different social location that formed us and shape us in this world . It was my experience that taught me that problems are created  for shared commonalties in life . This also is causing me that my reflection  now is a testimonial  has not depleted or damage they all were experience for someone else in life because nothing is new under the sun ;I believe in life we all can find one person in life that went through the same thing in life .  A feminist would defined this as “ Commonalties are shared interest that  create effective social change and awareness of one’s individuality and self-worth ,so live your life as an activist “

Advertisement Project

Advertisement Project

Advertising industry spends billions of dollars a year with many images of “Beauty “in a system that recreates itself and unobtainable. Behind the make-up, fame, status and smile beauty ideals has become living dolls this has become a catalyst to channel inner Barbie’s.  This has affected thoughts, emotions and behavior in individuals across the world by impacting self-esteem and self-confidence of women today. Maybelline slogan “Maybe she’s born with it” but the question remain was it Photoshopped? tidal waves of criticism has become prevalent in society women are dis-empowering themselves strive to fit the description of beauty that society has set for us.

A famous show girl, actress, icon, blue print of models was Norma Jeane Baker aka Marilyn Monroe. I chose this photo of her because she was the Jezebel (sex symbols, manipulative) of her time; she was primed by media, but was bleeding inside which led to her demise. All people saw was her breasts, her lips and her legs and not the scars inside of her. In the photo she’s putting on makeup, looking very confident, self-assured and composed; this is what society sees as beautiful. It didn’t matter that she was suffering with self-confidence and covering her inner pain. Beauty ideals have to do a lot with the “fit in factor “with many myths altering the facts with a great deal of social influences.
Yet” beauty has always been personal “our perceptions are different consequently society has social influence which are caused by real and imagined pressures. We buy the right clothes and cosmetic products. Many people work out obsessively, and others even develop eating disorders. Becoming obsessive in molding themselves into the outlines of fragment of beauty attraction.  Society has created a self-formula that has derails individual giving young girls an open concept of self. In the photo she looks as if she is confident but inside she was tormented, driven witless, but seen as fantastic, beautiful, and healthy, therefore you’re inside matter the most.
